Afgelopen jaar heb ik hard gewerkt aan een nieuwe manier van gedenken met muziek. Afstammend van een gevoel dat ik kreeg als jong volwassenen tijdens een begrafenis van één van mijn vrienden. Tijdens deze begrafenis, dat sowieso al een dramatische belevenis is, kwam ik op het idee om afscheid veel persoonlijker te willen maken. Tegenwoordig kiezen we tijdens de begrafenis muziek van een overledene. Soms is die muziek vrolijk en soms wekt deze verdriet op. Het is altijd het uitgangspunt dat het een laatste eerbetoon is aan de muzieksmaak van de overledene, maar wat nou als het nog persoonlijker kan? Een Laatste Geschenk is een platform voor families en vrienden die een persoonlijk lied opdragen aan een dierbare. Of een dierbare die een persoonlijk lied opdraagt aan de familie. Voor de één, een blijvende herinnering en voor de ander een blijvend bestaan op deze aarde.
Voor de lancering van deze nieuwe bewezen dienst heb ik het nummer "Kon ik maar bij je zijn (papa)" geschreven. De stem van Anne Heemskerk verbeeld een jong meisje wiens vader recent is overleden. Zij beschrijft haar liefde en de connectie van haar vader die tijdens haar leven een rots in de branding was en nog steeds in haar gedachten voort leeft. Voor haar is dit lied een blijvende herinnering en een eeuwig bestaan. Het lied geeft haar steun in deze moeilijke tijden van verdriet en leegte.

Descending from a feeling that I got as young adults during a funeral of one of my friends. During this funeral, which is already a dramatic experience, I came up with the idea to make farewell much more personal. Nowadays, during the funeral, we choose music from a deceased person. Sometimes that music is cheerful and sometimes the music gives space to be sad an mourn. It has always been a final tribute to the music taste of the deceased, but what if it could be even more personal?

She describes her love and the connection of her father who during her life was her everything and still lives on in her thoughts. For her, this song is a lasting memory and give her deceased father an eternal existence. The song gives her support in these difficult times of sorrow and emptiness.
A Last Gift (transl. "Een Laatste Geschenk") is a platform for families and friends who dedicate a personal song to a loved one. Or a loved one who dedicates a personal song to the family. For one person, an ever lasting memory and for the other leaving a permanent existence on this earth.
